Feng Shui Door’s Compass Direction and Corresponding Five Chinese Elements

Your doorway faces one of the eight compass directions, which corresponds to one of the five elements. The element to which your door is aligned is the element that rules our space. You need to take a compass reading of your doorway to determine the element that rules your space.

To do this correctly, stand in your doorway facing squarely out. The direction you find on the compass indicates the door’s element.

If your door faces north, your space is ruled by the element Water.

If your door faces northeast, your space is ruled by the element Earth.

If your door faces east, your space is ruled by the element Wood.

If your door faces southeast, your space is ruled by the element Wood.

If your door faces south, your space is ruled by the element Fire.

If your door faces southwest, your space is ruled by the element Earth.

If your door faces west, your space is ruled by the element Metal.

If your door faces northwest, your space is ruled by the element Metal.

If the direction you are facing appears between two compass direction, the following will help you determine which to use.

Looking at figure, you can see that north extends from 337.30 to 22.30, northeast from 22.30 to 67.30, east from 67.30 to 112.30; southeast from 112.30 to 157.30, south from 157.30 to 202.30, southwest from 202.30 to 247.30, west from 247.30 to 292.30, and northwest from 292.30 to 337.30
